Integrating Facebook with our blogs

I decided to start doing a bit more social with our blogs and signed up for the facebook api integration. In our blog posts you’ll notice the I Like Facebook buttons and the ability to login using your facebook account. One of the additional features we’ve included is the ability to comment using your facebook account.
There were two plugins we used: WP-FacebookConnect and Facebook Like. The idea of using these plugins and integrating our blogs to facebook is to generate more traffic and make it easier for our readers to comment on blog posts. We hope you like these features.

I found it amusing that the iphone4 app was showing ads for the blackberry and decided to take a photo.

With the launch of the iphone4 in Australia our team has been in a heated debate as to which phone our company should be using and promoting. The majority of us have used the blackberry storm but have been having several issues with it since we initially purchased them almost two years ago. There has been version upgrades which have dramatically fixed some of these major issues but at the same time one of my collegues has complained about missed calls. The problem may be related to memory I.e the more applications you have in the background the more memory it consumed. I’ve noticed that as soon as the memory reaches 4Mb the phone just slows down. You can reboot the phone or use quickpull to fix the issue but during this memory leak you might end missing important phone calls. I don’t know whether this will be the same case as the iphones but one of the main reasons why we went with the blackberry was because of the unlimited data download. There is a disclamer about the fair use policy but I ended up watching a full series of an anime and wasn’t charged at all.
So the iphone4 is very appealing because of the new apps like facetime and the speed. The blackberry is quite slow because of it 600 or so hertz processor.
Now I also use the blackberry as a storage device, just plug the usb cable to any pc and it will be mounted as a drive. Apparently you can’t do that with the iphone.. You need itunes.
In terms of apps, the iphone has too many and the blackberry is very limited. But we don’t play games so unlikely our decision will be based on this factor.
So which one should we go for?

Gmail emails being grouped on the Blackberry

I just noticed that on my blackberry, gmail emails are being grouped. So what has changed? Does anyone know? I did notice that I have to accept some new T&C’s from Gmail but it would be good to know what features are available. Does it mean that the calendar is being synched as well?
Solution: Images not appearing in Magento for both Backend and Frontend

This one took me several days to resolve. The issue was that we migrated our magento website from the godaddy shared hosting account to the godaddy grid hosting and images were not appearing both on the backend and frontend system.
I searched high and low and there we many many suggestions that I could find on the internet. I even asked godaddy to see whether there was anything on the server that was causing the problem as I was certain that it was their problem especially when it was previously working on the old hosting account. In terms of configuration nothing was changed. They claimed that it was a configuration setting or a permissions problem. I almost gave up but I thought about this for a while and was determined to fix the problem.
My solution was to rename the .htaccess file to .htaccess.old or even delete this file that is located in /media/
I hope this fixes your problem as well.
Which nameservers should I use on a godaddy grid hosting?

Today I spent half a day trying to migrate a website. We ended purchasing new grid hosting on godaddy for a domain and went a head configuring and setting up everything. The process seemed easy at first – the setup only took a few minutes and then we just waited. The most complex part was to configure DNS and nameservers. You complete this step when you configure the hosting and I thought I completed this section correctly. So I just waited… and it should have been updated within 4 hours but it appeared that the website wasn’t active. We waited for a few hours and then I decided to look into this further. I checked the Account Summary page and noticed that the A record didn’t exist. I found this quite odd. I checked the godaddy help pages to confirm the nameservers and this what was on the page:

ns26.domaincontrol.com
So obviously I used the above servers since I just signed up for the hosting. I waited for a few more hours and still the site was not alive. Feeling frustrated I knew it had to be a DNS issue. Upon further investigating the issue I noticed that the nameserves configures in the DNS Domain Manager was different to what was on the website help pages. This is what I saw (scroll to the bottom of the DNS Domain Manager):
The solution was simple: I changed the nameservers to ns01.domaincontrol.com and ns02.domaincontrol.com and it worked straightaway. To verify the DNS I used a website called http://www.zoneedit.com – this way I could make sure that my ISP wasn’t the cause of DNS not propagating the change.
